Google Snake is the browser version of the classic snake game, modelled on the one that appears when you search for it. You steer a snake around a grid of squares, eat the apples that appear, and grow longer with every bite. The whole challenge is that the snake never stops moving, so the longer it gets, the less room you have to turn.

How to play

A round goes like this. The snake starts short and moves on its own. Steer it onto an apple and it gets one segment longer and your score goes up. The round ends the moment the head hits a wall or runs into the snake's own body. There is no pause for thinking, so you plan a few squares ahead as you play.

Tips

• Do not reverse. Pressing the opposite direction does nothing useful and fumbled double taps are how most early runs end.
• Hug the edges while the snake is short, then switch to a looping path that sweeps the grid row by row once it fills more of the board. A repeatable route means the tail is never where you are about to go.
• Take turns early rather than late. Committing to a turn a square sooner gives you room to correct.
• Do not chase an apple into a corner unless you can see the way out. A slightly slower route is better than a trap.
